The tension is rising, spring is approaching, and Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne is drawing ever closer. On Sunday 1 March, one of the major opening classics of the cycling season returns to the calendar. While riders and teams prepare for a new battle, we first look back at the 2025 edition. Because one question remains: who will succeed Jasper Philipsen at the finish in Kuurne?

Looking back at Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne 2025

The 2025 edition once again delivered an attractive race, finishing for the first time in years with a classic bunch sprint on the Brugsesteenweg. After a long and controlled phase, a group of seven riders managed to build a solid lead, but the peloton never lost control. Attacks by, among others, Tim Wellens, Jonas Abrahamsen, and later a quartet including Dries De Bondt and Marius Mayhofer kept the tension high, yet none proved decisive. Once all attackers were caught, the sprinters got their chance. Perfectly led out, Jasper Philipsen left no room for doubt: on his birthday, he sprinted convincingly to victory ahead of Olav Kooij and Hugo Hofstetter.

After several editions shaped by late attacks or solo victories, the sprinters reclaimed the spotlight. And once again, Philipsen confirmed why he belongs to the very top of world cycling.

Who will succeed Jasper Philipsen?

The big question now is: will we see another sprint king crowned on the Brugsesteenweg, or can a strong attacker outsmart the peloton? Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne remains unpredictable, with a course that offers opportunities to both sprinters and attackers. One thing is certain: the battle for the iconic plush donkey promises excitement once again.
